Vale Allan Miller (1936-2025)

Long-time orienteer and Dandenong Ranges Orienteering Club member Allan Miller passed away peacefully at home on July 25.

Allan was still actively walking, cycling and setting courses well into his eighties, and was a member of the DROC Committee for a number of years.  Allan, along with Pat, was an avid orienteer, rogainer, bushwalker, bike rider, skier, and traveller – always on the go and wanting to explore the world. Allan reached the milestone of 1624 park and street events in The Millennium Club.

Allan will be very greatly missed by orienteers, rogainers, and riders.  Our deepest sympathies to Pat and the family.

A funeral service for Allan will be held on Monday 4 August, at Lilydale Memorial Gardens, 1.45pm.

MESSAGES and PHOTOS

Mark and I were greatly saddened to hear of Allan Miller passing. Our hearts go out to Pat with our deepest sympathy.

We admire and remember Allan for his cheerful manner, his ready smile and his adventurous spirit. He (and Pat) fitted more travel, rogaining, cycling and orienteering into each year than many younger folk. Allan has always been an inspiration to remain young-at-heart. He is a dear friend we will truly miss.

Dear Pat we are so sorry we are not there with you, as we are still travelling interstate, but we send our love and prayers.  and our deepest sympathy. May Allan now rest in peace.   Jill and Mark Phillips

My huge condolences to Pat and the rest of her family.  Marta Salek

Sorry to hear of Allan’s passing.  He and Pat were long – time friends and we shared many events over the years.  Carl Stemp

We have very fond memories of Allan and Pat enthusiastically volunteering, mostly in the rogaine catering or admin tents. They were always some of the people who you could depend on to put up their hand to help without having to be directly asked. As the Rogaine Volunteer Recruitment Officer this was very much appreciated to have them efficiently perform the required tasks, especially when you were shorthanded. As the attached photos suggest they loved getting out on the course and were some of the most successful seniors, an inspiration to the rest of us.  The attached  photos taken in 2010 one at a rogaine.  The same rogaine photo was also featured on the 2010 rogaine calendar. The other not so flattering image was taken at the  at a DROC bike ride and BBQ held at our place in 2009.  All the best to Pat and family in their loss. Ainslie and Peter

Allan, you and Pat have always been an inspiration and motivation, whether it be orienteering, rogaining, cycling, or travelling to places like Iceland or Antarctica, you’ve opened our eyes to so many possibilities.  Debbie and Ian
