Sprint Orienteering

Sprint orienteering features short fast-paced events held in very runnable park or urban environments. It is all about rapid decision making. A sprint course is designed to test your ability to interpret the map in complex environments, and to plan and carry out route choices while running as fast as you can. There are courses for all ages, even if your legs don’t move as fast as they used to! The challenge is as much mental as it is physical - a “sprint for the mind”.

Sprint events are generally held in urban areas, usually in Spring, Summer or early Autumn.

  • Sprint into Spring is our feature series, catering for all age groups and abilities, held on Saturday afternoons during October and November every year. Most events are in Melbourne, or regional centres such as Ballarat, Bendigo or Geelong.
  • The Victorian Sprint Championships are held straight after Sprint into Spring, and are open to all.  Test yourself against your peers, or make it another excuse to get out in the sunshine.
  • The Melbourne Sprint Weekend Carnival is held biennially on Victoria’s Labour weekend, featuring courses for all ages and 6 top quality sprint events over three days.
