New President, OV Awards Announced at AGM

The Orienteering Victoria Annual General Meeting was held on Friday May 26.  After longstanding President Carl Dalheim stepped down, David Jaffe was elected as the incoming President.  Wendy Taverna has joined the Board as co-Vice President, with Margi Freemantle (co-VP), Aislinn Prendergast (Secretary) and Stephen Collins (Treasurer) remaining in their current positions.  Carl led OV through some significant ups and downs, including two years of severe disruption due to covid, and a hugely successful Australian Championships in 2022, and his efforts to secure grant funding and keep OV financially viable, were recognised and applauded.

The OV awards for 2022 were announced:

  • Orienteering Victoria Services Award – Laurie Niven, for her ongoing and challenging role in securing permits and liaising with Parks Victoria
  • Orienteering Victoria Event Management Award – Susan Guinane, for coordinating the Australian Schools Orienteering Championships 2022
  • Rockhopper Award Junior Boy – Jensen Key
  • Lyrebird Award Junior Girl – Sophie Taverna

Course Setters of the Year for 2022 are:

  • Bush – Neil Barr, Australian Middle Distance Champs, Blackwood
  • Sprint – Bruce Arthur, Melbourne Sprint Weekend Race 3, Manor Lakes
  • MTBO – John Gavens, Victorian Middle Distance Champs, Nerrina
