Mountain Bike Orienteering at Woodlands, Sunday 1 June

A MTBO event ideal for those new to MTBO.  Why not give it a try and/or bring your friends?

1st June at Woodlands Historic Park. Across the road from Tullamarine Airport. Easy access from all parts of Melbourne. And Geelong, and Ballarat, and Central Highlands, and even Bendigo and places further out. Just off the freeways!  Access off Somerton Rd, Greenvale.

The terrain is generally flat with a couple of not-too-steep hills. A mix of woodland and open grass areas (but keep to the tracks, or areas marked orange on the map) and a bit of a venture into the adjacent urban area. The tracks are generally pretty friendly – fast gravel roads or paths, some paved paths/roads and minimal single track. Just a few sandy or slower tracks. The large fenced area in the middle of the park is out of bounds, so no worries looking for gates there, this time.

The information bulletin is now on Eventor and entries are open.  https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events/Show/22431
It would be best if you can let us know you are coming – so we have enough maps. Closing date is Thursday night 29 May.

One thing to note – MTBO uses sport ident control units that don’t have holes to insert your SI stick.  You will need the ‘radio-type’ SIAC stick.  Don’t worry if you don’t have one – we will have some for hire @ $2. And there will be map boards on loan, to fit on your handlebars.  And advice for those who haven’t done MTBO before.

Or you might bring your friends and you can show them what to do! (There will be some EOD maps available for limited courses if you have last-minute options!)
