Korong Spur – Great courses by Daryl Fleay

A warm overcast day greeted 50 odd participants at Bendigo Orienteers Korong Spur event after COVID restrictions were lifted on Wednesday. The terrain looked spectacular – green, lush and with an increasing number of native flowers on display.
While many rave about Mt Kooyoora for orienteering, Korong is more open and enjoyable. A perfect place to hone granite navigation.
Daryl Fleay is an expert course setter in granite and made good use of the map. A long leg greeted participants on the longer courses and got some people confused. For others the shorter legs created the problems.
Patrick Jaffe took honours on course 1 completing the 6.1km in just over 39min – 8min ahead of the club president. Jenny Bourne took out Course 2 in 54min while Jayne Sales walked around Course 3 (sans Stanley) in just under the hour. Jenny Ball and Hugo Byrne rounded out the winners on course 4 and 5.
