Amazing Week of Summer Orienteering

What an amazing week of Park Street orienteering – Melbourne at its best.  On Monday we had the wonderful map at Tatterson, with its unique Tree Maze (I’ve had two goes at this now, and got geographically embarrassed both times).  On Tuesday it was a different kind of maze, at Albert Park – course setter Helen making excellent use of the intricacies of the streets and lanes (hint: it was a good warmup for the Melbourne City Race in April).

Wednesday was one of those glorious summer evenings at Westerfolds Park.  Ruth placed all of the controls inside, or on the edge of the park, taking in Finns Reserve and the Yarra River crossings. The bush looked magnificent. Many orienteers brought their families along or caught up with friends, and it was a very lively occasion.

The week is rounded out by another semi-bush location at Eltham Lower, starting near the miniature railway and exploring the south end of Eltham.  Then its off to the Surf Coast for the series finale at historic Queenscliff – sure to be another crowd pleaser!

Next week we have plenty more in store – gallop around Mentone Racecourse on Monday; tackle the confusion that is Kensington on Tuesday; explore the parks and wetlands of Croydon Hills on Wednesday; go “green” on Thursday at Greenhills; or head to Newtown for the resumption of the Geelong Series.
