MelbushO at Birdsland/Wellington Chase, Sunday 28 June

The next MelbushO is on Sunday 28 June at Birdsland/Wellington Chase, Belgrave Heights.  Starting from the Birdsland Picnic Ground, all courses include the wetlands, with bush trails, lakes and watercourses, bridges, open grassland and pockets of forest.  Shorter courses will give you a sample of the granite-strewn northern slopes of Lysterfield Park, while longer courses will offer the full Wellington Chase experience – a great physical and technical challenge with plenty of rock!  Undergrowth has been reduced in places, thanks to recent burns making for pleasant forest running.

Check the Information Flyer to find out what to expect on each course, and decide which one suits you!

Online entries are open on Eventor – please pre-enter by Thursday 25 June at https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events/Show/2342.

Pre-entry is strongly preferred, to save long queues and guarantee a map on your preferred course, but you can enter on the day with cash or card – $3 surcharge for adults.

Choose any of the five courses with approximate distance of:
Course 1 (Long Hard) – 7 km, map scale 1:10000.  Expect tough climbs and technical route choices, interspersed with flat fast running.
Course 2 (Medium Hard) – 4.5 km, map scale 1:7500.  A shorter version of the above.
Course 3 (Short Hard) – 3.5 km, map scale 1:7500.  Choose this course to avoid the steeper climbs but still enjoy the rocks
Course 4 (Moderate) – 3.8 km, map scale 1:7500.  You’ll have some climbs and some rocks, but you can choose to strike out across country, or follow tracks and fences.
Course 5 (Easy) – 2.5 km, map scale 1:7500.  You’ll stick mainly to the tracks surrounding the beautiful Birdsland lakes.

The maps will be printed on robust but non-waterproof paper. Please bring your own plastic bag especially if rain is likely.  Please bring your own water. There are toilets, picnic tables, a playground, and drinking fountains.  Parking at the picnic ground is limited – expect to park up to 500 metres away, with a gentle downhill walk to reach registration.  Please car pool if possible.

Registration opens at 9.30am. Start times: 10.00am-11.30am.  All courses close at 1.00pm. You must return to the Finish before then, even if you haven’t completed your course.

Entry fees: Adults $12.00, Juniors (under 21) $8.00, Family maximum $32 (auto-applied when all members of a family enter together). Entry on the day incurs a $3 surcharge for adults.
