A day out at Birds Reef

The last time Bendigo Orienteers ran an event on Birds Reef was in 2018. This map has arguably the best erosion gully of all Bendigo maps. Lorraine Leversha set the courses with the fast, open spur gully terrain at the beginning of the course before diving into the technical terrain along the gully. Of the 66 participants half were from Bendigo Orienteers. All participants on courses 1, 2 and 3 ended up with wet feet due to the damp weather however everyone finished with a smile simply glad to be able to partake in the event.

Next week’s event (assuming no changes to lock down rules) is at Crusoe on the Melbourne side of Bendigo. Expect open bush with a few more contours on the longer courses. Keep an eye on Eventor to enter.
Remember when attending an event:

  • Stay in your vehicle until your designated start time
  • Maintain a distance of at least 1.5 metres from others at all times (including on the course)
  • Return to your car as soon as you finish your course.
