Vale Hania Lada

It was with immense sadness that we learnt last week of the tragic accident in which Hania Ladia died and her daughter Ella was injured. Ella is recovering and we wish her all the best for a speedy recovery.  We also pass our wishes to her parents Peter and Anna and her husband Quentin. Hania was an amazing lady who was passionate and dedicated to our sport. Three years ago, she took over producing the Australian Orienteer and two years ago took on a role as our schools officer even though she was also a tutor, mother and home-keeper. She was committed and organised in both her Orienteering roles and great to work with. The magazine has remained a vibrant and professional representation of our sport under Hania’s stewardship. In her schools role she managed a range of activities  and was expanding schools involvement . She also got more people involved in coaching than we have had in recent years.  She responded enthusiastically to new ideas and change and always set a high standard for everything she did.

It was always great seeing Hania and Ella at events. Hania loved being out in the forest and was very proud of the results Ella has started to achieve such as selection in last year’s Australian Schools Honour team. They both had a fantastic trip this year over to Europe and Hania had some great stories to tell. Her PHD research demonstrated her love of the environment and she was also conscious of this as she ran and organised events.
We already miss Hania and will work on ways to honour a fantastic person.
