Learn How To Orienteer event at Croxton School

Around 20 people attended the first Learn How To Orienteer session last Saturday at Croxton School. It was a great day of learning and having fun working out how to navigate around the school.

The goal of this program is to build a bridge between the first experience of orienteering and participating in club events by learning about orienteering and navigation techniques. Participants were fairly new to orienteering. Some had experienced orienteering at school or camp, some were orienteering families with children reading to learn more skills.

The focus of the first session at Croxton school was on understanding the map, orientating it with ground features and a compass, and to practice simple navigation. It was great to see mums, dads, kids, teens quickly picking up the skills and running around the school successfully orienteering.

A short video of the session can be viewed HERE and some photos are displayed below.

This Saturday we move to Darebin Parklands and will focus on using handrails, attack points and contours.
There is still the opportunity to join these sessions, either for the rest of the season or for individual days.
