Queens Birthday Weekend 2019 – Pure Gold! Three Days In The Diggings

Dandenong Ranges Orienteering Club and Melbourne Forest Racers are proud to bring you a 3 day weekend of pure gold – Middle Distance magic, mystery and mayhem!  All three events will feature the gold mining intricacies of Creswick Diggings, just a short drive from Creswick, Ballarat or Daylesford.

Saturday’s race will be the final Vic Autumn Series event, featuring our standard six courses, with start times from 12 noon until 2pm.  On Sunday, step up for the Victorian Middle Distance Championship!  Pre-entry is REQUIRED, and start times will be pre-allocated, from 10.30am.  And on Monday, stay on for the madness of the Bah Humbug Sprint, with three fast, fun courses, and starts from 10am-11am.

The arena is the same for all three days, and is easy-access, with everything nice and close, and spectator-friendly.  Jim will provide Live Results to add to the excitement, and the Junior Squad will cater on Saturday and Sunday.  We’ll also be selling Junior Jam, to help send our juniors to the Australian Schools Championships in NSW later this year.

The Bah Humbug Sprint

A fun way to wrap up the long weekend! Choose any of the three courses and start times from 10 am. Enter online or on the day. Course planner: Roch Prendergast Organisers: Dandenong Ranges Orienteering Club and Melbourne Forest Racers Enquiries: voa@iinet.net.au or 0409 135 020

Terrain Description

Another day to concentrate. Courses will be set for sprint winning times, but with the potential to blow out if you lose contact. Come to grips up close with the gold mining mapping for which Victorian orienteering is famous, on a larger scale version of the map. Again, the country will be mostly open, with some scrubby areas, but generally fairly slow going due to the uneven terrain. Course setter Roch promises this will be as difficult navigation as the map offers.
