Severe Weather This Weekend – Parks Vic Update

While there are no orienteering events scheduled in Park Victoria managed venues this weekend, please take heed of their general advice below.  If you are heading to the Surf Coast, remember to drink plenty of water and take precautions in the heat.

Parks Victoria Update

With high temperatures and extreme Fire Danger Ratings forecast in parts of Victoria this Saturday, this email is a reminder of how to obtain emergency warnings and information.

Fire risk in parks, forests and reserves increases in hot and dry weather. Safety is a personal responsibility and anyone entering public land needs to stay aware of forecast weather conditions and alert to signs of fire such as smoke or emergency vehicles.

To receive emergency information and advice, visit the VicEmergency website for real-time emergency incidents: www.emergency.vic.gov.au or download the app.

Saturday’s Fire Danger Ratings will trigger the closure of some parks across the state. Visit parkweb.vic.gov.au/safety/closures/severe-fire-danger-closures for details of which parks will close.

Access to other parks may also be affected.  Visit www.parks.vic.gov.au and find the individual page of the park you intend visiting, and view the park’s Change of Conditions.

A new feature on our updated website is the change of conditions overlay that will appear if numerous parks are affected by fires or floods.

Please note that Saturday has been declared a Total Fire Ban across the state.

Parks Victoria will provide information where possible, but you should not expect to receive warnings or advice directly from Parks Victoria in an emergency.
