Come and Try Orienteering at Castlemaine, Saturday August 6 and 20

Come and try orienteering at these FREE events proudly supported by VicHealth and Bendigo Orienteers! This event is the perfect chance to try the sport for locals to the Castlemaine region, as there will be plenty of events held in this area in the second half of the year as we lead up to the Aus Champs Carnival.

For these Come and Try it events, you just turn up ready to run or walk and someone will show you how it works. You can participate as an individual, in pairs or family groups. We’ll explain how the maps work, what you are looking for and what you need to do. If you have a compass, please bring it but we will have some available and for your first event, it isn’t necessary.

The come and try it courses will be designed to take walkers 40 minutes and runners 20-30 minutes. It’s better if children under 12 go with an adult or their families for their first try and others may want to run as a pair.

The registration and entry area will be at the Castlemaine Botanic Hardens from 9-11am on 6th and 20th of August. In this area there is also a permanent Orienteering course with free maps available.

More details are available in the event info flyer. For more details, please contact Richard Goonan (
