Maxi 3 Hour, Mt Franklin Gorge, Sunday October 15 POSTPONED Due to Flooding

MOUNT FRANKLIN GORGE MAXI – SUNDAY 16 OCTOBER
3 Hour or 1.5 Hour Score (Teams or Individuals)

13/10/22 – due to weather, road and creek conditions, the Maxi has been POSTPONED and will be rescheduled for a date to be announced.

The Maxi is a score event with mass start. The aim is to score as many points as possible within the time limit. The course setter is the renowned Derek Morris with vast experience setting both orienteering and rogaining courses.

A highlight is the Hash House where competitors can enjoy soup, sandwiches, cake, fruit and various refreshments, all included in the entry fee. You only need to provide your own mug, bowl, plate and comfy stool. Our volunteers lead by Lauris Stirling will look after the rest.

The competition area in State Forest between Daylesford and Castlemaine. The open forest borders the spectacular Tarilta Creek with many rocky outcrops.

Each competitor receives a 1:15,000 coloured map with 5 metre contours. The maps will have the control sites marked. The controls and will have different points value which is important to consider when planning your route. The course is of moderate navigational difficulty.

Start Times: There will be 2 mass starts. 11am for the 3 Hour and 12pm for the 1.5 Hour. Registration opens at 10:00am for the 3 Hour and at 11am for the 1.5 Hour.

Each competitor is required to carry a SportIdent stick for the electronic timing system we are using. There will be no charge for loan sticks unless they are lost.

The 3 Hour and 1.5 Hour courses can be entered individually or in teams of two or more.

Age Categories:
U21(16-20), U16(13-15), Open (21-44), 45+ (45-59), 60+ (60-69) and 70+ (70 plus). Age is taken on the 31st of December 2022

Classes:
Individual – Male or Female
Teams – Male, Female, Mixed or Family

Enter on day is possible subject to map availability and numbers. Please call organiser if you decide to EOD.

Entry Fees:

  • Adults (21 and over): $20 Juniors (under 21): $10
  • Family (Maximum) Family members in different categories: $50
  • Families in Family Category with no more than 2 adults $40 (cash back on day)
  • Non-members of Orienteering Victoria can enter as a Casual online. You will need to register your details first on Eventor.

Location: The assembly area is on the Limestone Creek Track, off the Midland Highway (A300) 8.5km south of Guildford and 24km north of the Farmers Arms Hotel, Daylesford.

There will be presentations and prizes after the event.
