Iceberg Series Wrap Up
It has been great to see so many orienteers enjoying our Iceberg series around the streets of Melbourne in the cold & dark of winter. Presentations for the 2010 Iceberg Night series were held on a suitably very chilly night after the event in Rosanna last Wednesday night.  Ian Collins has published a great report with photos and maps on the Orienteering Victoria website news section.  Check it out.
Website Statistics
Did you know that we average around 1200 visits to the Orienteering Victoria website each week.  The most popular pages are the home page, events, results, Park & Street and MTBO. Thanks to Vice President Craig Feuerherdt for establishing and tracking this.

2.    Victorian Club Relays Sun Aug 29
Over 200 runners and sunshine expected, all you need to bring is a picnic lunch to make it a perfect day. Will take last minute changes up to Thu night, send to SeanSunley@bigpond.com.
See details at end of bulletin.

3.    Red Ribbon Challenge
Bendigo Orienteers will hold Victoria’s first Red Ribbon Sub Junior Challenge at the Kangaroo Gully State Series event on Saturday 11 September. The challenge is open to all junior orienteers who are members of a Victorian orienteering club and are eligible to compete in Courses 7, 8 and 9. Points will be allocated on a participation and placing basis, and the winning club will get to hold the perpetual Red Ribbon Trophy for the year. All competitors will receive a certificate of participation, and winners in each section will be presented with a medallion. Entry: all juniors $5.00, Stick hire: $2.00
Intending competitors must enter at the Registration tent on the day and pick up their identifying ribbons.

6.    MTBO News
2010 Australian MTBO Champs – Chewton and Daylesford – 23 & 24 October
Entries have opened and are now flowing in for the 2010 Australian MTBO Champs to be held in Central Victoria on 23 & 24 October.
There will be Sprint, Middle and Long distance championships contested, with the Middle and Long races also being World Ranking Events for the elite classes. The weekend will also be the final round of the National MTBO Series for 2010.
The Sprint and Middle races will be held on the Saturday near Chewton with the Long race on Sunday morning near Daylesford. New maps have been made for the Sprint and Long races with the Middle using an extension to the "Old Quartz Hill" map as used in the 2004 World Champs.
There is also a Presentation Dinner at Bedolla's @ Savoia in Hepburn Springs on Saturday evening. We only have 100 seats available for dinner, so you will need to enter the champs early to make sure of a seat at this memorable dinner. Around 25 seats have gone already, so don't leave entering until the closing date as you will miss out on this special evening.
There will be pressure on for accommodation in Daylesford over the Aust Champs weekend as the Swisee/Italian Festa is also on. There are some accommodation suggestions listed on the website, but it would be an idea to book something as soon as possible.
You can enter now by going to the event website www.vicorienteering.asn.au/mtbo/auschamps
or click on the Aust Champs link at vicmtbo.com

2010 Queensland MTBO Championships – Round 2 of the National MTBO Series – Maryborough Qld – 4 & 5 September

Around 10 Vics are heading north for the QLD Champs and to get valuable  age class points for Victoria in the National Series. There is some funding available (probably around $100) for those going to represent Victoria in the age groups.
The
Multi Terrain Bike Orienteers host the Queensland Champs in the ‘Tuan’ pine plantation, site of the 2008 Australian Champs, on the sunny Fraser Coast near Maryborough. New areas have been mapped to accommodate the Middle and Long distance events. Enjoy all the Hervey Bay region has to offer during this 2 day carnival. Start you travel research and bookings now!

For all the event info, go to www.qld-mtbo-champs.com.au

The NSW MTBO Championships – Penrose – Sunday 19 September
The NSW Long Distance Champs will be held south of Sydney near Penrose on the Southern Tablelands, so a little easier for a trip from Victoria. The day before there is also a Sprint event, with both races being rounds of the NSW Super Series. More info and entry details are available at the
Mountain Devils website
There is also a news item with enticing photos of the new map area at Jumping Creek.

The South Australian MTBO Championships – Nelson – 16 & 17 October
Based at Nelson on the SA/Vic border, Middle and Long distance races will be held using updated maps from last year's Australian Champs. We are expecting much more enjoyable weather than we got in June last year, so these events should be a tremendous warm up for the 2010 Aust Champs the following week. The Long race will be held on Saturday afternoon with the Middle race on Sunday morning, giving plenty of time to get back home. We are planning a Saturday evening dinner in Nelson. The Long race will also be the final round of the Vic MTBO Series.
Again there are accommodation limitations in and around Nelson, so a good idea to start making plans soon.
More info on the SA Champs will be available on the Aust Champs website soon.
