2008 Melbourne Summer MTBO Series
Event # 2 Silvan Rode, Sat 19 January

That much sought after stuff, rain, added another element to the Summer MTBO event at Silvan and probably contributed
to a number of people choosing to find alternate entertainment for their Saturday evening – can't imagine why. But those of
us there had fun trying to solve course setter Phil Torode's riddle of how to gather lots of controls without having to do too
much climbing. The order you did them in was crucial and whether you hit the hills early or late as some found themselves
up a hill a long way from home when their time was running out. Phil's success was evident with the many and varied courses
that people chose with no-one getting all 20 controls. Alex Randall did best getting all 20 controls but incurred 40 late penalty
points to finish on 360 points. Kath Copland best female with 270 points.

61 people competed but 4 riders did not hand in their cards (possibly because they had disintegrated from the wet conditions).

The Dandenong Ranges ran a well organised event as usual and the several shelters were a welcome addition to get out of
the drizzling rain before and after the event. The barbecue proved popular again and was fortunately able to take cover in the
VOA shelter Peta Whitford put up for the mapboard loans.
