2008 Melbourne Summer MTBO Series
Event # 4, Macclesfield, Sat 2 February

Nearly 60 competitors enjoyed riding on the new map at Macclesfield near Emerald.
The Pony Club proved a most satisfactory venue for the start / assembly area and an enjoyable
spot for post event activities. With a 1:25,00 scale map and 10m contours, the organiser predicted
that no-one would be able to get all 20 controls in the required 75 minutes. This proved to be the
case, although Steven Cusworth did very well to get all controls and was only just over 4 minutes
late. Despite this 50 point late penalty, Steven still managed to be the highest scorer with 350 points.
Jamie Goddard and Michael Stanbrough had good rides too collecting 17 controls and both were
back on time. Jenny Mitchell had an excellent ride being first woman and 5th overall collecting 16
controls.

For those interested, Steven's route was 1, 14, 11, 20, 5, 7, 2, 6, 4, 18, 9, 12, 19, 10, 17, 13, 16, 15, 8, 3.

I think most riders enjoyed exploring this new area. The open pasture land afforded some great views
across to the Warburton Ranges, although there was a bit of work to do to enjoy these views.

Many thanks to the Bayside Kangaroos members for organising and helping out with the event,
to the Macclesfield Pony Club for letting us use their grounds, and to the Steer family for letting
us ride through their property.
