Race 2: Kinglake Du-O – Sunday May 11

Race 3: Gembrook Du-O – Saturday May 24

What is it?
These Du-O events are sprint distance adventure races involving running and mountain biking legs with a straight-forward navigation challenge, in beautiful native and pine forests close Melbourne.

You can take the race at whatever pace you like – as hard or as easy as you want. We want everyone to be able to have a go, challenge themselves, but above all, have fun!

We’re not charging a fortune to enter to cover the cost of expensive prizes that only a handful of competitors get to take home (there will be some prizes though). That’s because we’re all volunteers doing it for the love of racing and not for profit. When was the last time you did an adventure race for under $50?

The event is for all ages and abilities, Male and Female, solo competitors and teams of two.

Courses (approximate distances)
Long: Run 5km, Ride 16km, Run 2km
Short: Run 3km, Ride 9km, Run 2km

The estimated winning times for the race will be approx. 2 hours for the long course and 1 hour for the short. The race will require you to find checkpoints using a map to navigate (if you’re not sure how to navigate there’ll be someone on hand on the morning of the race to give you a ‘crash course’ – be there early!).

The first run leg will be a ‘scatter’ course. This means you collect a specified number of controls in any order. The bike leg and the second run leg will be ‘line’ courses. This means you must visit the controls in number order.

Detailed colour maps will be used for the race with checkpoints pre-marked. You will receive your first map as you start so you’re going to be planning your route as you go! There is a separate map for each leg that you will receive at the transition area. Detailed final instructions will be issued on race day at registration and there will be a race briefing to answer any final queries.

Gear
• Compass. Don’t have one? See if you can borrow one or let me know with your pre-entry and you can purchase one on the day for $30
• Whistle. Remember – 3 long blasts if you’re in real trouble
• Water. Bottle on bike, camel back for the run legs. There won’t be any water on the course. Make sure you leave a bottle or two at your bike in the transition for a drink at changeovers.
• Basic first aid kit
• Mountain bike and helmet. Some people use flat pedals to avoid changing into SPD’s – your choice.
• Map board. These fit onto your handlebars and make navigating while riding a whole heap easier. You don’t have to race with one but if you’d like to purchase one go to either "Windchill" boards, or "Miry" Mapboards. There will be some boards available to purchase on the day, but if you want one, make sure you order it before.
