Spring Series Concluded
Monday, 26 October 2009
21st Oct 09 - The Spring Series concluded with a novelty event last Wednesday. Mark Besley, our night series scorer comments:
Ted Van Geldermalsen and Margi Freemantle organised an interesting ”Novelty” where the map was “broken” into three overlapping pieces. The start was obvious and its section contained enough controls for the shorter courses. The two extra pieces had us thinking hard as we ran off after “go” was shouted. I could see the piece with Ruffey Lake Park joined onto the western side but the other piece with King St at the South really had me thinking. Somehow I thought it was further to the West than it actually was, and it took me a long time to notice that many controls were duplicated on both pieces. There were quite a number of us going very slowly at the start while we were trying to work this out. Of course some just “followed the leader” running to No. 10, which wasn’t a bad strategy as it turned out. It was a lot harder than usual to get a good “overview” of the map and estimate how many controls I was likely to be able to get in the time available. However there weren’t too many people back late, so I guess most people worked it out OK. Well done to the course setters.
