There were 88 competitors (including 2 runners)
who experienced the perfect riding weather near Ballan and Bostock Reservoir.
Early in the planning stages we elected to use a
simplified SI setup due to some challenges presented to us by the particular
map. This allowed course setter John Sheahan to use the extreme criss-crossing
course you rode while hopefully still providing plenty of route choice.
The SI was trialled in a more 'manual' fashion
than usually employed to make it easier to use for inexperienced finish
volunteers and cut down the amount of pre-event work. It did mean we had to DNF
a couple of riders retrospectively once we'd checked their course order. The
other disadvantage is I've had to type all the results in.
Apologies from the organisers for the
incorrectly labelled control number on the course master maps for courses 1, 2
and 3. A simple transcription error that caused many of you some considerable
grief!
The other innovation was the trial of pre-start
controls to control the map marking time. Is this a good idea or not?
Having Registration, Start and Finish all in the
one area certainly made things easier for us and I believe made it more
interesting and enjoyable for those competing and helping.
Otherwise I hope you had a great ride and we
hope to see you all, including beginners, back again.
I hope other clubs will consider also putting on
a relatively straight-forward beginners course 5 so we can all invite along
first timers or family who might be a bit apprehensive initially.
Also a huge thanks to all the BK members who
helped out on the day, especially those who didn't get/want a ride.
Here are the final results:
I have deleted leg 9 from course 1, leg 3 from
course 2 and leg 6 from course 3. It has caused some interesting reshuffling.
Most people will find they end up pretty much as results showed on the day, but
Carolyn Jackson on course 1, Peter Cusworth and Stephen Balharrie on course 2,
and Jocelyn Geary and Stuart Lloyd on course 3 should be particularly happy
with the modified results.
Unfortunately I had to do it all semi-manually
so apologies for the delay!
To my knowledge I don't believe we've used
SI-spilts to delete just a leg on any foot or mtbo events to date, so this is a
first!
