2005
Good spring weather greeted
the 61 starters at Daylesford riding on the "Brandy Hot" map for
the second last event in this year's State Series. There are quite a few hills
on this map and careful route selection was important to try and minimise the
number of climbs. Some riders were complaining about their lack of recent
training to make the best of the climbs, but should be a good workout for the
upcoming championship events. Corse setter, Keith Wade reports that,"I thought beforehand that I had
made the courses too easy, but it turned out that this country is more
difficult than I had estimated - some roads were very slow going."
Paul Leicester rode well to
take out course 1 for the first time with a time not that much longer than Tim Hately who was fastest on Course 2. Good to see our younger
competitors who rode in the recent Schools MTBO Champs coming along for some
more. We are hoping that a lot of them will make it to the Victorian and
Australian Champs in October and November.
Many thanks to the Tuckonie club for putting on the event, especially Keith
Wade as course setter and Peter Prime as organiser. Special thanks to the
non-MTBO Tuckonie members who faithfully come out every year to
help run their event.
The next and final round for this year will see the series
move to Gippsland for the first time. At Mirboo North on
Sunday October 9. See the webpage for details. This new map boasts
some great riding tracks and roads and should prove a boon for new riders from
